Finding Joy in Unexpected Places: The Power of Music on Our Journey
As the creator of the Soulful Guidance Oracle Deck, 30-Day Planner, and Journal, my mission has always been to help others navigate their life journeys, uncover their purpose, and craft the best life they can envision. I have often emphasized the importance of spiritual practices—meditation, introspection, and listening to soothing music—to connect with our inner selves. These tools have been invaluable in guiding others and myself towards a deeper understanding of our paths.
But last evening, I was reminded of something equally profound: the power of music to ignite our spirits in unexpected ways.
My husband and I went to see The Pointer Sisters perform—a group I have not listened to in almost 40 years. Their music transported me back in time, but more importantly, it awakened something in me that I had not felt in a while. As they sang, I felt an overwhelming urge to move, to dance, to come alive in a way that was both joyful and liberating.
The Pointer Sisters, once a quartet, now perform with just one of the original sisters, alongside her daughter and granddaughter. Watching them keep the family legacy alive, I realized that music, much like the tools I create, has a unique ability to bring people together and transcend boundaries. It does not matter what spiritual practices you follow, what beliefs you hold—there is a time and place for everything. Music, in particular, can be a powerful force in our lives, helping us connect with our bodies, our souls, and each other in ways that are sometimes unexpected but always beautiful.
This experience made me rethink how we connect with our purpose and our journey. While meditation and introspection are vital, there is also something to be said for the joy of movement, the thrill of a beat that makes your heart sing and your spirit soar. Sometimes, the most profound connections to our purpose come from the simplest pleasures—like dancing to a song that lights up your soul.
I had not anticipated feeling this way after a concert, but it was a powerful reminder that life’s journey is not just about quiet reflection. It is also about embracing moments of pure joy, letting yourself be carried by the rhythm of life, and allowing your spirit to move in ways that bring you happiness.
So, as you walk your own path, remember to make space for these moments of joy. Listen to the music that moves you, dance when your body urges you to, and allow yourself to experience the full spectrum of life’s beauty. This too is a form of spiritual practice, one that is just as vital as the quiet moments of meditation and reflection.
Because, in the end, life is about balance—finding harmony between the stillness within and the vibrant energy that surrounds us.
I will leave you with this thought: What makes your heart sing? What brings you joy? Embrace it, and let it guide you on your journey.
Love & gratitude,
